The position focuses on personal assistance, daily living support, companionship, structured routines and maintaining a safe and stable home environment. General supervision of the family’s other children will be secondary and incidental to the primary home-support duties. Positions Available: One (1) Terms of Employment Permanent, full-time 40 hours per week 8 hours per day, 5 days per week Overtime may be required and will be compensated in accordance with B.C. Employment Standards Wage: $24.50/hour Start Date: As soon as possible Education: Secondary school required Experience: Minimum 7 months to less than one year of experience in home support, caregiving, personal care or a related field Ability to provide compassionate and dependable support to individuals with medical or disability-related needs Experience supporting a person with autism is an asset First aid, home-support or related caregiving training is preferred but not mandatory Must be able to follow care instructions and established household routines Work Setting: Employer’s private residence Primary Care Recipients One adult family member undergoing treatment and recovery for a serious medical condition One six-year-old child with autism spectrum disorder Main Responsibilities Support for Adult Family Member Assist with personal care, dressing, hygiene, mobility and daily routines as required Provide companionship and non-medical personal support during treatment and recovery Prepare and serve nutritious meals. Assist with appointment scheduling and transportation arrangements Accompany the care recipient to medical appointments when required Observe and report changes in condition or support needs to the family Follow care instructions provided by the family and healthcare professionals Do not perform regulated nursing, medical or therapeutic services Support for Child with Autism Provide close supervision and assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, meals and other daily living activities Maintain established routines and provide consistent support during transitions Encourage communication, independence, social development and participation in age-appropriate activities Follow behavioural and developmental strategies established by the parents or professionals Observe and report changes in behaviour, routines or support needs Household and Safety Maintain a safe, clean and healthy home environment Perform light housekeeping, laundry and household organization related to the care recipients Shop for food and household supplies when required Maintain basic records of daily activities and relevant observations Incidental Family Assistance Provide occasional supervision and assistance to the family’s two other children and expected newborn when required Incidental childcare will remain secondary to the principal home-support responsibilities for the adult family member and the child with autism Living Arrangements Optional live-in arrangement available Private furnished room and household amenities available Live-in accommodation is not a condition of employment Language: English Important Note: This position is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign workers who are legally authorized to work in Canada.
