Job Purpose VISTA is currently looking to hire a number of Cable Underground Drop Operators to assist with several projects. Under general supervision, the Cable Underground Drop Operator will be responsible for on-site cable drop pre-inspections including assess the drop integrity, locate the fault(s) and repair it. When Dig Spading and Repairs or Partial replacement is not possible, the Burial Underground Drop Operator will provide a pre-inspection sheet with a sketch explaining the work required and will drop notice letter for all the customers affected by the future work. Work involves shoveling, digging spading, trenching and scooping raw materials as directed. Duties and Responsibilities • Conduct pre-trip/safety walk-around inspection documenting any safety hazzard • Ability to operate all handheld tools, small equipment functions independently and safely • Efficiently and safely spade, shovel, trench and/or scoop raw materials to and from specific areas and/or load upon haulers as directed • Ability to operate saw cut machine safely, positioning or moving of loads and conduct in response to hand or audio signals from team members • Interpret stakes and signage on the land • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions included but not limited to extreme temperatures (heat and cold), rain, sleet, snow, wind, and/or wet/humid conditions • Work under stress and with commitment to timelines and deadlines on a daily basis • Adhering to industry standards and Vista specific policies and regulations • Adhering to site specific rules and regulations • Ensuring communication between members of the team • Ability to work with minimal supervision • Maintain excellent communication (use radio/cell phone, as required) • Working as a member of the team by assisting other members when required • Learn and adhere to all applicable Health & Safety regulations, both legislatively mandated, and as outlined in company policy Health and Safety • Carry out work activities without risk to self or others and understand the consequences of failing to work safely • Identify hazards, risks and risk controls and understand the importance of risk assessment • Understand emergency and accident plans and procedures and how and to whom to report accidents, incidents and near misses in the work place Education and Experience • Grade 12 or equivalent • 1-3 years’ industry experience • Knowledge of how to operate a Locator Knowledge and Skills Required • Valid “G” license • Physically fit • Able to carry a minimum of 75 lbs. occasionally • Excellent interpersonal skills (spoken and written communication) • Complete Vista specific training in a reasonable amount of time • Complete client's site specific training as required • Must be able to read site plans for residential area • Must have minimum 1 year experience and able to read a grading plan, and do final grading in residential areas • Knowledge of cabling and computer technology • Professional, trustworthy, and reliable with a strong attention to detail • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and to handle calmly and efficiently situations ranging from routine to emergency • Ability to organize work and consistently meet deadlines • Ability to work both independently Working Conditions • Outside during all weather conditions • May come into contact with dirt due to the site's conditions and with fluids from the vehicles • Vehicle inspection regardless of weather conditions is required daily • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required at all times • There are some physically demanding aspects of the job such as continuous digging spading and shovelling Physical Requirements Demands • Carrying equipment (weight 75 pounds) – can be over long distance • Reaching by /extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s) (Continual through daily duties) • Continual wrist and arm movements • Ability to handle heavy equipment
